LUSCIOUS LIGHTING with a Sexy, Witty & Dramatic edge by Restoration Hardware… The BIRDCAGE CHANDELIER

Vintage Birdcage Chandeliers Enmasse From RESTORATION HARDWARE2

The new collection of lighting from retail juggernaut, RESTORATION HARDWARE is truly bold, brilliant and delicious (I’m having a Martyn Lawrence Bullard moment today).  I adore how they don’t simply think “basic drum” or  widest common denominator… their new collection is richly detailed, inspired by history and foreign locals and makes a BOLD and dramatic statement in your Interior Design.  They can be used as a focal point in a spare or modern room, or used in groupings in more richly layered and complicated spaces.  Especially if you are renovating / updating / refreshing your home… it’s the perfect time to add some Style (with a capital S).  Some of my favourite new pieces from the new Restoration Hardware lighting collection include:

The Vintage Birdcage Chandelier

(available in a variety of sizes from Dining Table sized to Brobdignagian size)

This piece comes in a variety of sizes (I LOVE the largest one deeply) and is inspired by vintage birdcages, bohemian style and Parisian eclectic style.  I love how the finish on the Vintage Birdcage juxtaposes rustic hand-wrought iron with a precision-cut faceted crystal pendant.  The tension created between the 2 wildly different mediums is both conceptually capitvating and visually sumptuous.   Another aspect I love about this line are that they are handcrafted and hung from a 3″-thick weathered marine rope.  (I love the detail of the cage being hinged with a side door to facilitate bulb replacements… practical and conceptually delightful).

Features of the Vintage Birdcage Chandelier include:

  • Crafted of hand-wrought iron
  • Vintage birdcage shape with open bottom
  • Chandelier is draped with faceted crystals
  • Rusted bronze finish imparts a vintage look
  • Curved arms have candlestick sockets with bobeches
  • Hinged door allows easy access to fixtures on the upper tier
  • Hardwire
  • May be used with a dimmer switch
  • Uses twelve 60W candelabra bulbs (included)

Foucault’s Orb Crystal Chandelier

The Foucault collection has the feeling of a LUX and exclusive Nineteenth century private club where smart cocktails will be served and fascinating conversation awaits.  The inspiration for this collection comes from 19th C. experimental physicist Léon Foucault’s gyroscope (as seen in the surrounding openwork globe encasing the crystal fixture). The double-gimbal iron frame surrounds the full-lead crystals, precision-cut and polished for MAXIMUM refraction, sparkle and Design impact.  I would love to see this piece in a lofty foyer, over a table filled with books in a library, over a table in a dining room or for the more adventurous … over a bed as seen in the above photo.

Features of the Foucault’s Orb Collection include:

  • Iron frame supports a chandelier covered with light-refracting crystals
  • Bobeche and candlestick under each bulb are modeled after a classic candleholder
  • Antiqued rust finish bestows a look of age
  • Uses twenty-four 25W max. candelabra bulbs, not included

19th C. Casbah Crystal Chandelier Large

Finally there is the 19th C. Crystal Casbah Chandelier that struck my fancy.  Its historic and exotic inspiration is derived from the sparkling lanterns of 19th-century Morocco and is sure to set the stage for many fabulous meals and conversations.  I love how the body of the chandelier is strung with hundreds of multi-faceted crystals (each polished by hand) to give it that sexy modern yet historic sensibility.

Features of the 19th C. Casbah Chandelier include:
  • Built of cast brass and wrought iron, wrapped with steel wire
  • Antiqued brass finish
  • Prismatic glass crystals reflect and refract the light
  • Each crystal is individually hand polished using traditional tools and techniques
  • Requires three 60W candelabra bulb, sold separately
